During the Holiday we took a few
moments out to visit the newly opened 9/11 memorial site. I had very mixed
feelings about visiting and we only spent about 15 minutes there, in the end I
found it a very emotional experience. The memorial itself is very well designed
and really conveys the enormity of the event. The footprint of each of the
towers has been dug out to a depth of about 5 stories and each of the walls has
been turned into a giant waterfall around this waterfall are the names of
everyone who died in that tower. Several of the women’s names have “and her
unborn child” next to them.
What I could not understand was
the number of people taking photographs of family members posing around the
memorial. Why on earth do you want a photograph of your family standing next to
the one surviving tree from the event or next to the list of names of everyone
who died?
